A STORY OF US

A Story Of UsLearning to be with ourselves and with each other. What if the very feelings we've been trained to avoid-for example, "shame, fear, sadness, pain"-were the very ones that could lead us home to ourselves? This is the story of six people-Johnny, Peter, Rui, Riana, Sara, and Janice-who each believed they had to be someone else to be seen, to survive, or to be loved. They wore masks. Stayed strong. Smiled through the ache. They did not even know they had such beliefs, or that they wore masks. Or carried that ache within them. Beneath their quiet, noisy, calm, or kind exteriors were unspoken stories-written deeply long ago in childhood. Stories they didn't choose... yet ones that still apparently mattered because these, silently, sneakily still shaped how they lived, loved, functioned, and coped. Through gentle conversations, raw honesty, and the safe presence of Uncle Ben, they begin to understand what it means to be emotionally safe-not by fearing and avoiding pain, rather by learning to stay with it, in it. This book isn't about healing all at once. It's about starting to feel again. It's about becoming real-together.We don't need to be perfect. We just need the courage to begin.
