It is produced from a naturally-occurring mineral, heated to a very high temperatures. It is stable, easy to handle, long -lasting and neither alkaline nor acidic.Seeds: BetterGrow Vermiculite is especially useful as a seed covering. After you sow the seeds, cover the mix with a thin layer of vermiculite and moisten gently. Do not firm the compost. The vermiculite will insulate seeds against temperature and moisture fluctuation and support seedlings as they emerge. This leads to better germination and healthy seedlings.Repotting plants: BetterGrow Vermiculite in pottings and seed sowing mixes will increase moisture retention and support plant growth by absorbing nutrients, preventing them from being washed out and then releasing them gradually to the plants. Use up to 25% (1:3) by volume in repotting mixes for plants that like a very open but moist compost such as anthuriums, ferns, alocasias, citrus and other sub-tropical plants.Vermiculite is also ideal for soil amendment where moisture retention is a concern.Perlite or Vermiculite? Vermiculite helps to hold moisture in the mix, so it is consistently available for plants to use.
